The MIRROR – make pollution great again

The installation the MIRROR stands as an artistic intervention designed to transform the dynamic urban landscape of Jena-Lobeda. Conceived within the context of the 72 Hours Urban Action competition, this project turns the challenge of make pollution great again into a visually captivating and thought-provoking experience. The installation creatively responds to the surrounding environment, converting the pervasive sounds of the highway and the continuous wind into a harmonious symphony of light and sound.

A delicate, yet robust, mesh structure stretches across the existing seating area and adjacent green space, creating a sense of sanctuary amidst the urban hustle. This design balances the need for peaceful refuge with the desire for an open view of the distant surroundings. Soft, colorful stripes ripple in the wind, adding a layer of dynamic movement to the space while encouraging those passing by to stop, listen, and engage with the environment in a new way.

DESIGN DETAILS

Every step of the installation was a process of rethinking urban space and its interaction with nature. From conceptualization to realization, this installation merges design with functionality, turning an otherwise noisy and polluted area into a peaceful oasis. The challenge of integrating urban noise with serene design was met with creative solutions, resulting in a work that not only addresses environmental concerns but also enhances the daily lives of the people who encounter it.

"Transforming noise into harmony, and pollution into beauty—the MIRROR reflects the potential for design to reshape the urban experience."
